While recording my debut album “Failure & Masterpiece” with producer Neill Duncan between 2015 and 2018, I wrote and recorded a lot of demos at three different homes in Wentworth Falls (NSW Australia) on my Boss Micro BR-80; some of them published on Soundcloud and Bandcamp.

Plan A was to re-record them at a later date, but I grew quite attached to the performances and sounds you can only get from the Micro BR-80 and which would be big trouble to reproduce.

Plan B was to pass on the files to Neill for him to remix; namely, syncing in the rhythmic elements, re-mixing each separate track of the songs (vocals, guitars, etc.), playing with volume levels, and getting rid of the hiss. The last part of the process was to master it, which we did with producer John Stuart's help in his studio “Stuart Sound Heaven” also in Wentworth Falls.

I released a four-track EP of some of those remixes in 2020, “Shut The Mind Down”.

The new album - “Answers In The Dust” - is finally here. Neill's remixes stayed true to the recordings' lo-fi style, but made a 2-D project go full 3-D, and therefore more listenable. I do love a good lo-fi ethic, aiming for first or second takes in all their rawness and spontaneity, but it has to bear repeated listening...
